

Shirley G. Zimmerman, after a long battle with cancer, passed on from this world at her home surrounded by her family on March 25, 2016. She was predeceased by her husband, Dean O. Zimmerman and her parents Anna Gorgos Kendrot and Julius Gorgos of Binghamton, New York. She is survived by her children, Jeffrey Alan (Tamara), of Manassas, Virginia; Lynn Ann Zimmerman-Bell of Manassas Park, Virginia; Barry John Zimmerman (Simone) of Hollywood, Florida and Curt Owen Zimmerman (Linda) of Manassas, Virginia; grandchildren Luke Zimmerman, Kirsten Zimmerman, Zachary Bell, Jacob Bell, and Jacqui Zimmerman all of Virginia; sisters Barbara Petras and Kathi Samulka and brother Richard Gorgos, two nephews, Cary Samulka and Timothy Gorgos and four nieces, Wendy Petras, Toby Fleshren, Anita Tomancik, and Nicole Samulka and beautiful friends. She graduated from Binghamton Central High School in Binghamton, New York and St. Thomas University in Miami, Florida. A longtime member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Boca Raton, Florida, she held the position of Director of Adult Spiritual Development at St. Joan of Arc before retiring and then also retiring from a position at St. Luke Parish in Coconut Creek as Director of Religious Education. She was active in Church activities, having been a past president of the St. Joan of Arc Council of Catholic Women. She enjoyed past membership in the Boca Raton Garden Club and the Southern Handicraft Society and St. Joan of Arc Columbiettes and an enjoyable time as a docent at the International Cartoon Museum. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Joan of Arc in Boca Raton, Florida on Monday, March 28, 2016 at 9:30 am. Family will receive friends at their home following the Mass.
