Born in Vincent, AL; raised in Quitman, GA.
Vernon entered military service before completing high school during the Korean War. He resided in Thomasville, GA after completing combat duty in artillery
and as a paratrooper in the US Army. Much of his life was spent in South/Central Florida farming sugar cane and produce for market.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Laraine. They have lived in Boca Raton, FL since 2004. He is also survived by members of the Johnston, Howard and Miller families, including Sophia Santiago, Vernon Howard Jr. and his adopted God-son Daryl Pfaff and their families.
Memorial Service: Feb 17, 2016 was held at Hammock Street Church, Boca Raton, FL
