I knew Bert later in life when he was living in the Winston Salem area. He was the ringleader of our golf group which varied from a handful in the winter to 13,14,15 or more in the more pleasant times of the year.

Bert was a joy to golf with, just a happy guy having fun with his friends and a bit mischievous too. Bert moved away 8-10 years ago to be closer to family, but he has been missed and not forgotten. We still talk about Bert and laugh at the fun we had with him. As we stood in the fairway waiting for the group ahead to finish and move on Bert would yell “while we’re young!”

None of us are young anymore, but Bert was young at heart.
