However you knew him…. Charlie, Chico, Chuck, Coach, or Cuse. Charlie Mancuso was simply a good man who had an impact on many lives.
Charlie was born on April 30, 1950 to Angelo and Frances Recchio Mancuso of Patchogue, NY. He graduated from Patchogue-Medford High School in 1968, and graduated from Concord College in Athens, WV where he received a baseball scholarship, and wrestled for the Mountain Lions. He received his MA from Marshall University. Sports remained important to him all his life.
It was Concord College where Charlie met Pamela Shumate. They celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary on July 12.
Charlie began his teaching career in Patchogue, NY before moving to Beckley, WV and working at Stoco Junior High and Liberty High School. He coached wrestling and baseball and earned the nickname Coach. He and Pam moved to Ocala, Florida in 1988. Charlie taught and coached at several Marion County Schools before concluding his career at Emerald Shores Elementary in 2015.
Retirement provided Charlie lots of time for golf. He played as often as he could, and worked part time at Ocala Municipal Golf Club. Many dear friends were made there.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela Shumate Mancuso, of Ocala, and two children, Adam (Deanna Lovell) and Amy (Rich Ramey), and grandchildren Corbyn and Macy all of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Angelo and Frances, Mancuso, and his brother, Michael.
A Celebration of Charlie’s Life will be held at Ocala Municipal Golf Club on Friday, March 8th from 5pm-9pm.
