He was born on October 24, 1944 in New Hanover County. He was an U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War. Gene was a man with a big heart. He loved his family and had a soft spot for children and animals. Gene enjoyed collecting diecast metal cars and old western movies. Elvis was a favorite artist of Gene's, he loved to hear him sing.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, James R. and Alma Woodcock Rich; brothers, Larry Glisson and Buddy Rich; sister, Yvonne Register; great grandson, Braden Duncan.
Survivors include loving wife of 32 years, Carol Rich; daughters, Pamela Myatt, Alma Joyce, JoAnn Cavenaugh and Cheryl Sheppard; step daughter, Regina Powers; stepson, Daniel Long; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at White Funeral and Cremation Service - Bolivia Chapel at one o'clock in the afternoon. Graveside service will follow in Galloway Memorial Cemetery West.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Brown, Jeffrey Sellers, Chris Robinson, Clay McIntyre, Byron Cavenaugh and Gregory Cavenaugh.
