Helen grew up in Salem, VA. She studied to be a nurse, graduating from the College of Richmond Professional Institute, known as VCU today and the Nursing School Medical College of Virginia. Helen worked briefly in the labs before going into pharmaceutical sales. She worked her way up to management at a time when not many women attained that level. She relocated to Fairfax. VA where she met and fell in love with Leroy “Dee” Wiggins. “Dee” passed away unexpectedly in 1984 and the next year Helen moved to Brunswick County. Upon arriving she decided to pursue her lifelong interest in plants and gardening. Her work led her to open For Plants and Florist in Shallotte, NC. Helen was forced into early retirement after a work related accident in 2000. She then spent her time cooking and gardening as much as she could. Helen touched the lives of so many people in both small and very large ways. Her abiding faith kept her going when times were tough and was a source of love and strength to family and friends.
