Mrs. Vazzana, also known affectionately as Lucy or Marie, was born in Lynnfield, MA, on the thirty first of August 1942 to the late Joseph F. and Della Alice Rich Smith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, John C. Smith and son-in-law, Paul Pichierri.
While in Lynnfield, Marie was a special needs teacher and taught at several different schools. She was a longtime member of the Lynnfield Congregational Church where she was the chairperson of the church prayer group. Marie also served as president of the Lynnfield Flower Club.
After moving to Ocean Isle Beach, NC over twelve years ago, she became very involved in the Seaside United Methodist Church, Sunset Beach, NC and was a member of their prayer group. Marie was someone who stayed active and enjoyed golf. Marie was a member of the Ladies Golf League of The Thistle Golf Club, the “Out to Lunch Bunch” at Ocean Ridge. The DD Ladies Group, the Ocean Ridge cocktail group, the 8AM four mile walking group of Ocean Ridge, and the Mahjong club.
Survivors include her loving husband of fifty-eight years; Lawrence Michael Vazzana; three daughters, Kimberly Ann Vazzana Happer and husband William Coburn of Concord, NC; Bethaney Jean Vazzana Pichierri of Panama; Jennifer Lyn Vazzana Stevanovic and husband Philip of East Belmore, Long Island, NY; four grandchildren, Joseph Willis Happer, Fletcher Coburn Happer, Derek Brayden Stevanovic, Ryan Michael Stevanovic and five cherished friends, Charlene “Charlie” Bullerdick, Christine “Chris” Corbisero, Carol Wakefield, Brenda Hess and Sue Kane.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted on Saturday the fifteenth of December, at eleven O’clock in the morning in the Seaside United Methodist Church. You are all cordially invited to a reception with the family following the service at the church.
