On Thursday, November 20, 2025, Martha King Forsythe danced through the gates of heaven, celebrating complete healing from a 6 year battle with kidney disease. Her journey was long but her reward is profound- eternal life in heaven.
Martha was born on April 17, 1970, to the late Homer Stewart King and Mary Anna Lewis King. She was a native of Brunswick County, calling Winnabow home, her entire life. She was predeceased in death by her brothers William Daniel King, Larry King, and Al “Rob” Minarovic.
Martha was the proud Mama of James White and wife Lindzey, Jessica Hopkins and husband Zackary, and Brianna Mullins and partner Zack Dragon. She is also remembered by her children by marriage, Tiffany Forsythe, Dalton Forsythe and wife Sabrina. The highlight of Martha’s life was seeing her children happy with their growing families. She embraced her role as a Grandma to Walker, Beatrix, Hadley, and Naomi.
Years after graduation from South Brunswick High School, Martha reconnected with her soulmate, Rodney Forsythe. They first met in 1980 and as adults, rekindled their friendship in 2011. Martha and Rodney were married in the presence of their children in 2013. Their devotion to each other reflected their vows and Martha’s life was much brighter with Rodney by her side. Together, they teamed through medical challenges while continuing to live life to the fullest.
Martha was the youngest of twelve children. From the moment she was born, she was adored by her family. They surrounded her with love throughout each mountain and valley, from beginning to end. Martha’s presence as the “baby sister” of the King family will be greatly missed. Surviving siblings are William King and wife Melissa, Cynthia Dale and husband Charlie, John King and wife Veronica, Sharon King, Tim King and wife Lisa, Anthony King and wife Janis, Dianne Hendricks, and Andrew King and wife Martha. In addition, she will always be remembered as a fun and loving aunt to an abundant crew of nieces and nephews. The family would like to express love and appreciation to Martha’s lifelong friends, Patty Mason and Sheila Mackenzie for their devoted friendship and sisterly bond with Martha.
Martha spent many meaningful moments with family and friends. She loved special gatherings, oyster roasts, Merritt’s Burger House, shopping, traveling, crafting, and George Strait concerts. She was always up for an adventure which always included fun and laughter. In 2023, Martha rededicated her life to the Lord and was baptized in Lake Waccamaw; this was a special milestone in her life. Shortly thereafter, she and Rodney made their church home at Olivet Baptist in Wilmington, where support and prayers from her church family were unwavering. Martha enjoyed special church events, attending services, and watching online when she was physically unable to attend. Her hope and strength came from the Lord-Psalm 46:1. Our family finds peace in knowing Martha is with Jesus, completely healed, and enjoying the rewards of heaven.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Friday, November 28, 2025, from 6:00-8:00pm at White Funeral and Cremation, 603 Ocean Highway East, Bolivia, NC. A celebration of Martha’s life will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 11:00am at Olivet Baptist Church, 138 Glendale Drive, Wilmington, NC. Pastor Billy Fowler will be officiating. Burial will be private at the Lewis-King Cemetery.
The family would like to express gratitude for the compassionate care Martha received from Dr. Eric Pierson and the staff of Eastern Nephrology as well as NHRMC Novant Rehabilitation and ICU Care Teams. We are also grateful for Martha’s host of friends, church family, and all who lovingly supported her through prayers, visits, social media connections, and kind gestures.
