He was born on November 22, 1920 in Roper, NC, son of the late Lorena Chesson Knowles and Walter Anson Knowles.
Russell was a United Methodist Minister for over 46 years. He was a member of the Masons and the Shrinners.
Russell is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jaxie Carter Knowles; son, Russell Ray Knowles, Jr.; daughter, Phyllis K. Shoe and 5 grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday January 31, 2013 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home, 603 Ocean Highway, Supply, NC 28462.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:30am on Friday February 1, 2013 at Bethel United Methodist Church, 3909 Bus 17 E Bolivia, NC 28422. Graveside Service will follow at Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery, 247 Southport- Supply Road, Supply, NC 28462.
