Steve was born in Woodbury, New Jersey on November 14, 1949 and was the son of Elsie Shivers of Bolivia and the late Stephen N. Shivers, Jr. He graduated from West Deptford High School and lettered in band and football.
In addition to his mother, Steve is survived by his wife Debbie Bowling Shivers of the home; three children, Stephen L. Shivers, IV and wife Carole of Linwood, NJ, Dawn M. Shivers of Spartanburg, SC and Taylor L. Nash-Braun and husband Rayn of Hammond, LA. Additionally grandchildren, Chelsea M. Shivers, Daniel Shivers, Nathan Shivers, Marc Wuchter, Joey Rogers and Jillian Rogers; a sister, Carol Willetts and husband Guy of Bolivia; sisters-in-law, Sandra Bowling Tyner, Lorri Bowling Shipston and husband Tim, and brother-in-law, Gary Bowling and wife Susan.
Steve was employed by Bell Telephone as a lineman for ten years while at the same time working with his father to establish S & S Auction. Steve retired from the auction in December 1999 and shortly after moved to Brunswick County. Steve was married to his first wife, Dianelaine for forty-eight years. Steve and Debbie were married for five years.
Steve received a flying lesson for Christmas one year which led to him becoming an instrument rated pilot and owning his own plane which he used to transport patients living in remote areas, donor organs, and rescue animals – any reason to fly. Steve enjoyed singing tenor with the Wilmington Celebration Choir for seven years. Steve (and Debbie) enjoyed working stained glass. Steve was exceptional fixing things: electrical, plumbing, carpentry, auto mechanic, sound equipment; he could fix anything. His sister Carol said he started taking things apart as young as five years old.
Steve loved his three girls, Piper, Lucy, and Scout, and he loved his family. With family gatherings at Thanksgiving and Christmas, you would find him in the kitchen all day cooking. He also loved decorating outside and inside for the holidays, especially Halloween and Christmas. Steve will be missed by family and friends, and especially by his loving wife.
