Thomas Shane Hughes

Tommy was born May 19, 1971, in Burlington, NC; son of the late Wilkes Thomas Hughes, Jr. and Edwina Thompson Hughes. He worked for the United States Postal Service. Tommy was passionate about sports and very competitive in everything he did. He played men's senior league softball on the Total Lawn Care team. He was an obnoxious Duke Fan. His favorite verbiage when upset with his teams he would say "For the Love of Peanut Butter".

He married Kayla Elizabeth Ihlefield, on the courthouse steps, July 21, 2023 in Brunswick County.

Along with his wife he is survived by his daughter, Brooke Baker and her husband Dustin and their two children; and his step son, Colton Wicker; brother, Scott Hughes and his wife Trish; aunt and uncle, Jane and Mike Blythe; cousins, Jeffrey Blythe and Jennifer Blythe; niece, Lindsey Curtis; nephew, Andrew Curtis and many, many friends.

Tommy was preceded in death, by his sister Paige Phillips.

A funeral service will be July 23, 2026 at 2:00 pm at White Funeral Home in Bolivia with Pastor Paul Dameron officiating.
