

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 20, at 11 a.m., at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 800 Cherry Tree Rd., NE, Winnabow, with the Reverend Lora Rissmiller officiating. A reception will follow at the Barn at Rock Creek. Interment will be private.
Born in Winnabow on August 23,1929, he was the son of Robert Lee and Braddie Bigford Rabon of Winnabow. In 1951 he married Lois King. He is survived by their three children, Tom Bragg Rabon Jr. (Susan), Judy Tharp (Wayne) and Dennis Rabon ( Diane) all of Southport; grandchildren, John Rabon, Jackson Rabon and Ann Douglas Rabon; stepdaughters, Debbie Davis (Jeff) of Dover, Delaware and Kathy Slaugenhoup (Bill) of Rocky Point, N.C.; seven step grandchildren and twelve step great-grandchildren and five step great-great grandchildren.
Following Lois’s death after nearly 50 years of marriage, he reconnected with a friend from his days at Bolivia High School, Mattie Lee, and they were married in 2002. She preceded him in death.
Tom was a graduate of Bolivia High School attended Miller-Motte College, and served in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Air Force Reserve. He was the longtime postmaster of the Winnabow Post Office, owner with his wife Lois of a popular country store, and a farmer. After his retirement he became involved in local government, serving as a Brunswick County Commissioner (four terms) and on the Brunswick County Social Services Board of Directors.He served on the Board of Trustees at Dosher Memorial Hospital and the Brunswick County Board of Elections. Mr Rabon was a retired Real Estate Broker. He was a founding member of the Winnabow Fire Department. He was a longtime and faithful member of New Hope Presbyterian Church.

Tom was known as a hard worker, a dedicated community servant, and someone who kept his promises.
