Mr. Hewett was the son of the late Charlie and Oneida Hewett. He served in the US Army National Guard from March 7, 1955 to March 6, 1963. Billy had worked for the Department of Defense at Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point for 45 plus years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Velma Rae Hewett.
Mr. Hewett is survived by his three children, Charlie Hewett and wife Teresa, Rosemary Hewett, and William R. Hewett, Jr. and wife Martha; eight grandchildren, Michael Hewett, Nathan Pelsh, Shae Pelsh, Courtney Green, BJ McConville, Corey Hewett, Cameron Hewett, and Kyle Hewett; many great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Rusty.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, October 16, 2026 in the White Funeral Home Chapel. The family will have visitation at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
