William (Bill) Webb, 81, of Bolivia, NC passed away at home on Sunday August 23rd, exactly as he would have wanted: in his recliner, watching westerns. Born in Oakdale, TN on Dec 20, 1944, he found himself in Brunswick County for the last fifty-plus years thanks to his beautiful bride, Carolyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nora Cromwell and Andy Webb of Lancing, TN. He was the last chapter of a remarkable generation, having outlived all eight of his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 60 long, long years, Carolyn Galloway Webb; daughters Wendy W. Robinson of Bolivia, and Deanna Brown (Kevin Andrews) of Bolivia; grandchildren Misty DeQuillettes (KC) of Southport, Kari Myrtle-Posey (Christopher Posey) of Asheville, TJ Brown (Lindsy) of Marion, and Samantha Brown of Clarkton and Bolivia; great grandchildren Connor Chrysostomides, Addison Myrtle, Kellum Brown, Lincoln Posey, and Sterlin Brown; one snorting beagle Breeze, two cats, as well as one rooster and several chickens that will be looking for a new home.
He worked hard all his life, ultimately retiring from Sunny Point MOTSU as a supervisor in the rail department. His family and all who knew him will remember his willingness to help and show up for anyone and everyone. His daughters will remember his strong belief in sparing the rod and spoiling the child virtue, and they were not spoiled--regardless of what he said later in life. He loved his family, and family gatherings, especially when he got to tell them to go home when he got tired of them. He had a sense of humor, although many times he was the only one that saw the humor in it.
He loved being around trains, fishing, Busch beer, and chewing tobacco. He loved gardening and watching it grow. He loved telling everyone else what to do and how to do it. And if it wasn't his way, it was the wrong way. Special thanks to neighbor and friend Burton Warner, and Eric McPherson, of Eric's Grille, for always being great friends and people he could count on. Above all, he was a wonderfully stubborn, hilarious character who will be cherished and missed dearly. Per his request, there will be no service.
