Alejandrina was raised in Santiago alongside her sisters Rosalia, Ernestina and Evarista. She was the youngest of four sisters. Alejandrina grew up in a very close family environment, and being the youngest, she was well taken care of by her older sisters. Alejandrina was married to Bruno Borreta Bermudez in 1935, at the age of sixteen, in Santiago, Ilocos Sur. She had thirteen children through natural birthing, five of whom are deceased (Clarita, Esmenia, Bruno Jr., Cecilia, and Bernardo). She is survived by eight of her children: Marino Bermudez (Bachelor of Laws), Arnulfo Bermudez (Bachelor of Arts major in Public Administration), Mario Bermudez (Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology), Virginia Lucero (Bachelor of Science in Library Science), Nestor Bermudez (Undergraduate in Mechanical Engineering), Joselita Cardoza (Bachelor of Science in Dental Medicine), Cristeta Paule (Bachelor of Arts major in Economics), and Imelda Almazan (Bachelor of Science in Nursing). She has nineteen grandchildren, one of whom is deceased, and fourteen great grandchildren.
Alejandrina was a full-time homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and being with family. She was a very nurturing, religious, and compassionate mother, sister, and grandmother. She always made sure that she provided the best care to all of her children, as well as her grandchildren. She came to the United States in 1979, as an immigrant, through one of her sons, Arnulfo, who served in the United States Navy. Through the following decade, she was reunited with her children, one who made his home in New York, one who works in Alaska, and five who made their homes in San Diego, with one remaining in the Philippines.
Alejandrina passed away on Wednesday, May 25th, 2011, at five fifty-four in the morning by natural cause at the age of ninety-two, under San Diego hospice care, after being bedridden for a month. During this time, her children and grandchildren were always by her side, taking care of her, even as she took her last breath. Alejandrina lived her life to the fullest as a mother and grandmother. Her memory will always be in the hearts of her family. She will be dearly missed, but always loved.
