Amado Torres Miana was born on November 16, 1935 to Simplicio and Trinidad in Natividad, Pangasinan, Philippines. He was the second child and had five siblings, Aurora, Norma, Cesar, Lilia and Edwin. He graduated from the University of the Philippines with a degree in law and subsequently passed the bar exam in 1957. He pursued a career as a successful lawyer. In 1984, he moved to the United States where he worked at the County of San Diego as a Health and Human Services Specialist for 23 years.
In addition to being a generous son, brother, and uncle, he was an amazing husband to his wife of 53 years, Bernardina (“Nina”). They raised six wonderful children, Amalia, Ayrene, Armand, Anabel, Arland and Emanuel. Amado and Nina have twelve grandchildren, Fermalia, Nadine, Stephanie, Nicholas, Christian, Ferdinand Jr., Austin, Dyeanna, Sophia Rose, Audrey, Eidan James and Eric Jacob. They have three great-grandchildren, Tehani, Jaiden and Adriana. Amado was a family man and enjoyed spending quality time with his loved ones. He handled things in a calm manner and had a unique sense of humor. Amado liked to tell jokes and have his family figure out the answers to his riddles. Family gatherings were filled with laughter, fun, and games such as Texas Hold ‘Em and Pokeno.
Those who knew Amado describe him as kind, caring, and humble. The simple things in life brought him joy. Even as a young man in the Philippines, a trip to the movies with his wife and children made him happy. He was quite the chef and enjoyed preparing special entrees for his family. His specialty was a delicious catfish miso dish. He was easy going and could often be found relaxing in his rocking chair. He loved reading the newspaper, watching sporting events, and doing crossword puzzles. He really liked to visit Las Vegas. Horseracing and Keno were his favorite things to play there. He would often catch the bus to Sycuan to try his luck and claim his free meal at the buffet. He lived life to the fullest and never lost sight of what was truly important.
