Angelica Maria was born in Tijuana, Baja California on July 11 1965 to Jose Luis and Mariana Duarte. Angelica, affectionately known as Leca, was the oldest of four children. She grew up and worked along the coastal cities of California, helping to care for her brothers Jose Luis ‘Junior’, Jose Alfredo ‘Awelo’, and Andrew Jose ‘Andy’. In 1984, Leca married Vu Le becoming a stepmother to Michelle and David Le. On August 22, 1985, her son Adrian ‘Cosas’ was born and on July 26, 1988, she had her daughter, Marian Cynthia ‘Pookie’. In 1996 our family had a new and wonderful addition of Lydia to our growing family.
Throughout mom’s life she worked hard cleaning hotels, homes, and offices to selflessly build a life for her family. Whether it was her private Greek oasis in Playas or Las Vegas, she filled these homes with love, safety, and warmth for her loved ones to enjoy. And how can we forget how much mom loved to cook, how delicious she made every meal because every meal was made with love. Who can forget her beautiful infectious smile and laugh or her little scowl when she was upset. And her sunglasses, who can forget the sunglasses!
Throughout her 60 years, our mother instilled the values of family, integrity, and love. Our mother may not have known how important her role in our family was and we are feeling her absence every day. But as time goes on, we make quiet promises to our mother. We promise to work hard and love unconditionally as she did. To learn, confide, and advise one another as a family. To be charitable to those who have less, to be humble with all of God’s blessings and give thanks to his benevolence. These are the life lessons we will carry with us, and we will strive every day to be the best of what our mother was.
As we all gather to celebrate our beloved mother Angelica, let us remember her most important lesson which was to love one another unconditionally. And as we laugh, cry, and share reminiscences of such a wonderful soul, just remember that this unity, the family gathering is what she wanted and cherished most in her life. Remember Leca, our mother, is happy and at peace. On behalf of our entire family, thank you and we love you.
