Angelina Milan Buenviaje
Angelina succumbed to cancer of the pancreas on February 10, 2015 with her husband and all her children by her side. Born on September 28,1931 to Jose Sandejas Milan and Maria Ortiz Milan, Angelina or Angie to family and friends, grew up in Pasay City, Philippines. She studied in the University of the Philippines (UP) and became a Registered Nurse. Under the sponsorship of World Health Organization (WHO), she took up a Masteral Degree in Public Health in her Alma Mater and became the first Nursing graduate student to finish the program in the Philippines. Angie was also awarded a Lifetime Membership with the Public Health Nurses Association of the Philippines for co-authoring a Philippine Public Health manual which is still being used as a reference material by Nursing Students in the Philippines today. In fact, two of her daughters-in-law came across her manual while reviewing for their Nursing board examinations.
At the age of 20, Angie met her one and only love, Pepe or Philip through her older sister Tessie. After eight years they exchanged vows on July 8, 1959 at Ermita Catholic Church in Manila. Their union brought forth eight beautiful children--- five boys namely Jay, Felipe Ismael, Vic, Alex, and Dennis and three girls namely Stella, Maita and Tessa (deceased).
In 1969, Angie and Philip decided to move their family from Buendia, Manila to Sorsogon in Bicol. While in Sorsogon, she continued to work in Public Health, reporting to the Naga Regional Office and enduring a four-hour one way trip to work. With a growing family to attend to, Angie knew her priorities--- when it was time to choose between her flourishing public health career and taking care of her growing family, Angie, without second thoughts focused her energy and devoted her time in giving tender loving care to Philip and her eight children.
In May 2003 Angie and Philip migrated to the United States and stayed in San Diego ever since.
A strong person, she easily took to the role of father and mother to her eight energetic children when her husband Philip was working abroad. She never ceased to delight her family with her happy disposition, delicious cooking, and fantastic baking skills.
A loving and devoted wife. A tender, understanding, and patient mom. A generous, caring, and kind “Lola” (grandmother). Angie is survived by her husband Philip, seven children, and sixteen grandchildren.
