Asuncion, known affectionately as Sioning, was born on August 15, 1922 in Tanza, Cavite, Philippines. She is the second child of her father, Juan Reyes and mother, Camila Tecson. Sioning has five siblings; Loreana, Augusto, Restituto, Antonio, and the youngest Danilo. Although she was only able to finish grammar school, she learned at a young age the value of hard work to support her family.
In 1940, Asuncion married Hermogenes Torres, and the two began their journey through life together. Together they had 11 children, 6 boys followed by 5 girls;
Solito "Sol" Reyes Torres born October 9, 1941 (deceased)
Oscar "Oca" Reyes Torres born September 5, 1944
Cesar "Kipot" Reyes Torres born October 6, 1946
Carmen Reyes Torres born 1948 (deceased)
John "Juan" Reyes Torres born June 24, 1950
Hermogenes "Yeye" Reyes Torres born June 6, 1953
Lilian" Bilog" Reyes Torres Pareja born May 3, 1955
Cora Reyes Torres Diaz born November 22, 1957
Mercedes "Bobot" Reyes Torres Bradley born September 27, 1959
Nenita "Nenet" Reyes Torres Binotapa born January 3, 1962
Theresa "Sexie" Reyes Torres Luker born January 23, 1966
With such a large family of her own she continued working hard dealing in trades with the Americans.
A day before her birthday in 1975, the Torres Family immigrated to the United States in hopes of pursuing the "American dream." In 1978 Sioning and her family opened the Torres Family Restaurant which thrived for 8 years. After her retirement she spent time with her family and traveled as far as Japan, New Jersey, Northern California and the East Coast.
On August 30, 2011 at 7am the Lord took Asuncion to join him. We are comforted by the fact that she is joined by her husband, two children, parents, and three of her siblings, and is resting in peace for eternity. Through her character she has taught her family the true definition of strength. She has created a legacy that will last forever. She is gone but far from forgotten. She will be missed.
