Glen Abbey Memorial Park & Mortuary

3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA

Passed away on October 5, 2019

Barbara Lee Schwendinger of Chula Vista, California was called home to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at the age of 80.

Born September 22, 1939 in San Jose, California, she was the daughter of the late Bertram Glenn Fullerton and Inez Ruby Fullerton.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ronald George Schwendinger. Barb met Ronnie while she was on a blind date with another couple. The twist: Barb wasn’t Ronnie’s date...at first. They set things straight, however, and ended the evening together as a couple. They’ve been inseparable ever since.

Ron was in the US Navy at the time they met, and on August 16, 1958 Barb became a Navy wife. She raised nine children while chasing Ron’s duties across the globe.

Shortly after their marriage, they were introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Together, they decided to be baptized and become members. As a member of the church, Barbara’s faith in her Heavenly Father and her knowledge that families are forever strengthened her and gave her peace as her time on earth came to a close.

She will also be greatly missed by her nine Children, Rhonda Lee Nichols (Steve), Daniel Keith Schwendinger (Debbie), Maria Louise Gonzales (Frank), Karl Thomas Schwendinger (Sarah), Tamara Lynae Tarter, George Eric Schwendinger (Kathleen), Joseph Franz Schwendinger (Heidi), Rebecca Lynn Robles (Fermin) and Lisa Ann Carlseen (Peter); her 39 grandchildren; her 16 great grandchildren; her brother Bertram Glenn Fullerton, Jr. ; her sister Betty Campbell and her nephew and niece Steven and Sandra

Due to her great capacity for love, Barbara had many close friends, some as close as family. She will be missed by them as well.

Throughout Her life, Barbara loved creating beauty with her hands. She enjoyed painting and drawing, cake decorating and crocheting, but her most beautiful creation is the immense, loving family who surrounded her and comforted her as her earthly journey ended. Even in her weakened condition, her hugs were long and strong. She refused to let go until your heart and soul were filled.

Her example was impeccable, her strength was incredible, her smile was contagious but most of all, her love was limitless.

Barbara’s viewing will take place at 9:00am Tuesday, October 15, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1590 East H Street, Chula Vista, California 91913. The memorial service will follow in the chapel at 11:00am with Bishop Stansel officiating. Immediately following, a graveside service will be conducted at Glen Abbey cemetery in Bonita, California.

Flowers can be sent to the Glen Abbey mortuary.

Barb's long, meaningful hugs were so genuine and filled with love! Schwendinger reunions in Minnesota were the greatest because I knew I would get to see all my cousins, and especially Ron & Barb who came so far.
We all were blessed to have known her. May she now rest in the arms of our Heavenly Father.
A big, big hug for you, Barb
