Barbara Joan Vaughan Williams, 87, of Bonita, California, passed away on September 17, 2026. Born on October 25, 1938, in San Diego, Barbara’s life was marked by steady devotion to family, quiet strength, and a thoughtful care for others that was felt in both large and small ways.
In her early years, Barbara graduated from Sweetwater High School in National City, Class of 1956. She also held a singular place in living history, having been the youngest resident on Ford Island when Pearl Harbor took place—an experience that remained part of the remarkable timeline of her life.
Barbara was married for 65 years to Pat M Vaughan. Together they built a home grounded in faithfulness, patience, and the kind of hard work that does not seek attention, but earns enduring respect. Barbara was a mother to four sons: Robert and Tammy, Dale and Ghette, Craig, Andrew and Anna. Her family also grew to include six grandchildren—Mishylynn, Jacob, Jeremy, Andrew, Nicki, and Marie—and five great-grandchildren: Rosa, Diego, Olivia, Angel, and Ryan. In all the roles she carried, she gave of herself with a selfless constancy and compassionate presence that her loved ones will long remember.
Barbara’s interests reflected both creativity and curiosity. She loved sewing, knitting, and photography, and she pursued photography further with two years of study in college. Her adventurous spirit also found expression in her love of travel, taking her to Australia, New Zealand, France, Spain, Germany, and throughout Europe and the US
Barbara also remained connected to community through her membership in the Sons and Daughters of Pearl Harbor Survivors and the Cub Scouts. In these commitments, her steady, service-minded nature showed through—reliable, considerate, and attentive to the people and purposes she supported.
Barbara will be remembered as a loving mother, and as a woman whose life reflected compassion, faith, and thoughtful devotion. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished and the many ways she quietly made life better for those around her.
