Biography

Our beloved Bay Tan Barrera was born on December 3rd, 1920 in Basey, Samar. He was the first born child to his parents Felix Barrera and Saturnina Tan. Though Isagani or Bayani was his original birth name, he officially shortened it to "Bay" when he became a U.S. Citizen. To his immediate family and grandchildren, however, he will always be endearingly known as "Tatay."

As a young man he met Preciosa Caparaz in Cavite City, Philippines, fell in love, and married her on April 11, 1946. Together they built a beautiful life raising 6 children; Rizalito, Filipina, Jeremias, Gideon, Jonathan (RIP), and Anisa (RIP). Tatay's faith was always a priority to him, spending Sunday mornings teaching his kids about the bible.

Tatay's exemplary work ethic was always on display in his various professions and desire to provide for his family. While working as a skilled fisherman, he also diligently completed correspondence school and became a licensed aircraft mechanic. This led him to work with Philippine Airlines for 8 years. In 1978, he and Preciosa migrated to the US. Here he continued his trade with ROHR, an aerospace manufacturing company until he retired in 1990.

Years following the passing of Preciosa, he was blessed to find love again and married Ma Corazon Dionisio in 2009. Tatay will be deeply missed by his surviving wife, brother (Macaraig Barrera), three sons, one daughter, 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
