Benjamin entered into rest on March 2, 2011, a short but fulfilling life that started on March 31 of 1963; he was born in the house of his grandparents in Leon, Guanajuato. He was the third of eight sons born to his parents Victoriano Escobedo and Maria de la Luz Torres. Ben grew up in Tijuana with his seven brothers: Victor, Sergio, Maximo, Jaime, Javier, Gustavo and Arturo. At an early age Ben showed character, responsibility and vision, working at age 9 after school, bagging groceries for tips. He also developed his love for the outdoors as an Eagle Scout in the back country of northern Baja and a love of sports, playing soccer and football in the dusty fields of Tijuana.
The family moved across the border to San Diego when Ben was only 17. He graduated High School from Clairemont High School in San Diego in 1981 and integrated immediately into the culture and graduated from UCSD with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics, and some years later with an MBA from the University of Redlands. Ben had enough energy to balance all his passions with great intensity: scuba diving, triathlons, marathons, soccer, skiing, volleyball and golf. His career path took him to General Dynamics and later to Solar Turbines Inc., where he met and fell in love with Linda Lattanzio. Ben and Linda married at the Immaculata in San Diego on May 22, 1999. They had a beautiful reception on the Patio in La Jolla. On June 30, 2000 their son Anthony Michael was born, and Ben spent most of his next ten creating so many memories with his son, wife, family, friends and co-workers.
At Solar, Ben matured into a successful executive, most recently as a Director at Turbotec Remanufacturing Facility at Solar Turbines Inc. in Tijuana. Ben had the rare talent of bringing out the best in people; he was a man full of love and compassion and had an incredible ability to make a lasting impression on people wherever he went. He always made time for everyone; time to play “Tio Ben Chase” with his numerous nephews and nieces at every Sunday family gathering, time to call a friend in need and most importantly, time to cherish his loving family.
He is survived by his wife Linda (Lattanzio) Escobedo, his son Anthony Michael Escobedo, his parents, Victoriano Escobedo and Maria de la Luz Torres, his seven brothers; Victor, Sergio, Maximo, Jaime, Javier, Gustavo and Arturo Escobedo and so many in-laws, cousins, aunts and uncles, grandmother, and nieces and nephews.
We have all been so blessed to have him in our lives, we love him so dearly, and have so many fond memories of him. May God bless him as he rests in peace. Vigil will be held on Wednesday March 9th from 5:00 to 9:00 at Glen Abbey Memorial Park & Mortuary; 3838 Bonita Rd, Bonita, CA, followed by a service on Thursday March 10th at 10:00am at Corpus Christi Catholic Church; 450 Corral Canyon Rd, Bonita, CA. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a charity which he was a Board Member; UCP (United Cerebral Palsy) San Diego one of Ben’s many passions in life.
