Benjie was born in Rosario, Cavite, Philippines, to Alfredo and Felisa Buhain.
Benjie enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he specialized as an aircraft mechanic for 20 years. Over his Navy career, he was deployed overseas several times on the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson. While stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas, he met Virginia “Jaye” Acuario, who would become his wife. Benjie’s service brought the family from Texas to Hawaii and then to California. Along the way, they had three children, Venice, Vivien and Ben Richard.
After retiring from military service, Benjie used his skills in the civilian aviation industry for over 30 years, working as a mechanic for Alaska and United airlines.
Benjie was a huge fan of music and was known for singing songs by the Bee Gees and the Beatles for karaoke. He was a great cook, and he would make large meals for family, friends, co-workers and anyone else who asked. Benjie and Jaye also loved to travel, and they took advantage of his perks with the airlines to fly – first class whenever possible. Benjie’s priority was spending time with the people he loved, and he would always be there to lend a helping hand or just get together.
Benjie and Jaye were devoted to each other and their family, and recently celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary.
Benjie is survived by Jaye Buhain, their children, Venice (Jim Snowden), Vivien (Noel Juinio) and Ben Richard; along with his brothers Alfredo Jr. (Cynthia), Edwin (Melinda) and Paul, and his sister Rosie Ces, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in the United States and in the Philippines.
