Betty Ann Charfauros San Nicolas was blessed with an abundance of leadership qualities. It would be accurate to say that this woman was an outstanding luminary and that her natural abilities served her well. She knew with certainty how she wanted to set priorities in all aspects of her life. She struck those who knew her as the kind of person who awoke in the morning with a clear sense of exactly what she expected from her day and how to set about accomplishing those goals. Betty Ann was a woman who definitely liked order and was most comfortable with an organized and structured lifestyle.
Betty Ann was born on September 2, 1966 at Guam Memorial Hospital in Tamuning, Guam. Her parents were Juan and Alfonsina San Nicolas. Betty Ann was raised in National City, California. Betty Ann was brought up to be reasonable in her actions and was taught to use her intellect wisely. She was an honest and straightforward child, traits that reinforced her self-confidence. Even at a young age, Betty Ann was credited with having a positive influence on those around her.
The positive atmosphere that Betty Ann generated spread to her family. Betty Ann was raised with Five sisters and two brothers. She was the third oldest of her siblings. She had Joanna Rose, Doris Marie, Jose, Dianna Christine, John Manuel, Sylvia Patrice, and Alfonsina Manuela. Betty Ann served as a catalyst within the family. She often found herself in the role of providing fair solutions to those sibling disputes. In every family activity, Betty Ann was able to demonstrate her uncommon logic and skill at building compromise.
Betty Ann's enthusiasm for learning and the personal energy that enthusiasm generated led to her exhibiting leadership qualities early on in her childhood. She liked to see things executed properly and showed a skill for taking control of situations that were drifting out of control. At the same time, she was willing to experiment with different approaches as she worked a plan towards a solution. As a young girl, she took part in double Dutch jump rope, Soft ball, Volley ball, Basket ball and track and field and on the drill team. In her spare time she loved to cook, bake and take care of her younger siblings. Betty Ann's memorable achievements included she placed 1st in a double Dutch jump rope competition which landed a spot in the local newspaper. As well as being one of the fastest softball pitchers in National City,.
When it came to academics and school, Betty Ann's organizational skills reaped dividends. Betty Ann was able to create a system for getting her class work done in a proper and timely manner. With a strong ability to analyze her schoolwork and assignments, she could apply a practical, common sense approach completing her studies. She showed a natural curiosity in the manner in which she tackled new types of problems and would regularly challenge her own reasoning ability in finding solutions. She attended Ira Harbison Elementary, then Granger Jr. High and then graduated from Sweetwater High School in 1984. She enjoyed some courses more than others and developed favorite classes and teachers. Her favorite class in high school was English and History. The teacher she enjoyed learning from the most was Coach Peralt.
In a group of friends and acquaintances, Betty Ann was typically the first person to take the initiative to go up and greet someone new. That quality made her very approachable by others throughout her life. This same quality brought Betty Ann the reward of many friends. Maintaining loyalty to those friends was a trait that came naturally to Betty Ann. She believed that she should treat others in a fair manner, in the same way she wanted to be treated. Betty Ann also showed a great deal of appreciation for the accomplishments of her friends. She often showed her appreciation by cooking and or baking goods for her friends and coworkers.
On July 16, 1988 Betty Ann exchanged wedding vows with Romero Blas San Agustin Jr. at St. Mary’s Church of National City, CA. They were blessed with One child, Rochelle Marie. Although she had one child, she enjoyed being around the company of her nieces and nephews. She would often take them to eat, the park, the beach, and even to the aquarium.
At work Betty Ann was viewed as a natural leader. She could marshal all of the available resources, including personnel and materials, in order to meet virtually any objective. She was great at developing strategies and made maximum progress with little wasted effort. Betty Ann was also adept at uncovering new and more efficient ways of getting things done. She was able to establish and meet objectives and schedules through long range planning and was always able to keep the big picture clearly in sight. Although Betty Ann might have been described by some as an overachiever, she was without question a dedicated and diligent employee. Her primary occupation was a Program Analyst for the Department of the Defense Navac Divison. She was employed for over 24 years. She retired earlier this year in 2020.
No matter what the activity was, Betty Ann had the ability to motivate others. This talent influenced her participation in sports, too. She sought out the possibilities in a competitive situation, and she stayed cool and calm under pressure. She relished the stimulation of the action and energy associated with sports. In high school, Betty Ann played soft ball, volleyball,. She was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following her favorite events whenever she got the opportunity. Tops on her list were football and baseball.
Betty Ann lived her life guided by a well-defined set of beliefs. Her faith and religion were important aspects of those beliefs. She was a member of St Rose Catholic Church for 23 years. She would often pray in her home as well as call her mother and pray with her.
Traveling, especially vacations, was another way for Betty Ann to apply her exceptional leadership and organizational skills. She liked exploring different places but also enjoyed designing and scheduling the trips in advance. She had real talent for developing the perfect itineraries. Favorite vacations included Utah, Vegas, San Francisco, and Hawaii.
Betty Ann passed away on July 31, 2020 at Scripps Mercy Hospital in Chula Vista, California. Betty Ann fought a brave battle against ovarian cancer. She is survived by her daughter Rochelle, her mother Alfonsina (Tina), her sisters Joanna, Doris, Dianna (Tina), Sylvia (Syl), and Alfonsina (Allie), her bothers Jose (Joe) and John (John-John), her nieces Vanessa, Elizabeth, Dominque, Leiahna, Isabella, and Regina, her nephews/godsons Saber and Anthony, her grand nieces Rihanna and Brooklyn and her grand nephew Jordan, her brother in laws Joe and Keith and all her loving friends and extended family. Services were held at Glen Abby Chapel of Roses. Betty Ann was laid to rest in Glen Abby Cemetery in Bonita, California.
Betty Ann Charfauros San Nicolas knew what she wanted from life and never hesitated in going after it. She could be characterized as a driven individual, someone who understood the importance of achievement. Betty Ann was decisive and outspoken at times but was also positive and upbeat about most things. She was a leader, both intentionally and sometimes by default as well as nurturing and caring.
