(1935 – 2018)
Beverley Rex Brumbach (Bev) was born May 26, 1935 in Washington, D.C. to parents Marion Rex Brumbach and Eva Neel Taylor-Reyes. She moved over 30-times during her life, spanning 11 states (most notably Virginia, Georgia, Texas, Michigan, and California) as well as the Netherlands and France. Most recently, she resided in La Mesa, California.
Bev graduated from Washington-Lee High School of Arlington, Virginia in 1953. Later, she studied to obtain a substance abuse counselor certification in Michigan, as well as a mortuary insurance license in California.
Bev had a unique family life, including four marriages/unions with two men and two women. She married Edward Nussbaum in 1955, with whom she bore sons Steven Mark (1958), John Douglas (1961), and Robert Rex (1966). She celebrated her union with Elizabeth Palmer (Beth) in 1976; with whose children Carolyn Palmer and Christen Palmer-Odum, and later Carolyn’s son Jayce Branch; she played a significant parental role. She celebrated her union with Gayle Nichol in 2001. Finally, she married Franck Rouede in 2007.
Bev’s working life began at age 18 with the Federal Reserve Bank in New Orleans and later Atlanta. While married to Ed, she worked several years in the secretarial pool for Dow Chemical Company in Freeport, Texas, before stopping to raise her children. In 1975, she got a job as a typist in the investigation office at Ingham County (Michigan) Friend of the Court. Through ten years she progressed to the position of Court Investigator. In 1986, she moved to Rialto, California to help care for her step-father Leo B. Reyes (Billy). She interviewed for two jobs: the San Bernardino county version of the job she left in Michigan, or a commission-only job with SCI. Betting on herself, Bev took the job at SCI. This proved to be a very good decision. She progressed in the company through several locations to the positions of Sales Manager and Family Service Supervisor. This was the most satisfying professional experience of her life. Motivating her people to outperform their own expectations. Earning performance based trips and cruises. Eventually, gaining the moniker “starmaker” which she cherished for the rest of her life. Bev retired in 2002.
Bev enjoyed travelling. She traveled extensively in North America and Europe. She counted her excursions in Europe as high points in her life. She enjoyed socializing with friends while playing games, particularly bridge, canasta, crossword puzzles and board games. She was an early adopter of technology with a presence on social websites (Facebook, Twitter). Finally, she was extremely proud of her family, particularly her grandchildren. This is evident by the many pictures that decorate her home.
