May 4, 1950 - June 2, 2021
Bruce Steven Buckner was called to eternal peace and joy by our Lord and Savior on June 2, 2021. He was born May 4, 1950 in Los Angeles, California to Andrew Buckner and Barbara Mae Chatters. He moved with his mother to the San Fernando Valley and was raised by his father, Nathaniel Ransom, with his sisters, Fabienne Delores Ransom (Rauch), Sandra Dawn Ransom (Livingston), and Serena Shawn Ransom (Gillis), and brother, Anthony Renee Morris.
During his teenage years at Sylmar High School, he was both an accomplished athlete and scholar, star of the track and basketball teams, while being president of his class.
He enlisted in the U.S Navy at age 18, and served as a medic during his tour in Vietnam. He married Cynthia Harris, and had three beautiful daughters, Alicia Michelle Buckner (Williams), Luwana Rene Buckner, and Dana Lynn Buckner (Weidinger). He later married Brenda Ferrell and had his son, Bruce Steven Buckner II, and helped to raise her son Maurice Farrell. He was the supervisor for three post offices in the San Diego area, and retired at age 55.
He enjoyed spending time with his children and family, roller-skating, karate, reading, art, philosophy, playing flute, travelling, and was our own San Diego Zoo personal tour guide. He attended San Diego State University with his son, Bruce Buckner II, and received his bachelor's degree in Philosophy.
Susan Dowell was his loving partner in the final chapters of his life.
Bruce was a beautiful, intellectual, dignified, spiritual, and loving individual, who had a unique relationship with everyone who was blessed to be in his presence and life. He was preceded into heaven by his parents, and recently his brother Anthony Renee Morris, and his sister Sandra Dawn Livingston, survived by her family George, Briana, George Jr. and Troy. Left to cherish his memories are his sisters, Fabienne Delores Rauch (Peter, Lauren, and Anika), Serena Shawn Gillis (Curtis, Alana, Curtis Jr., Nathaniel, and Leon), his daughters, Alicia Michelle Williams (Frank, Miguel, Madeline, Mason), Luwana Rene Buckner (Jacob), Dana Lynn Weidinger (Michael, Taylor, Ashton ), his son, Bruce Buckner II, brother Andrew Buckner II, sisters Diane Buckner, Donna Buckner, as well as Susan Dowell along with other wonderful loving friends and family.
We will celebrate Bruce’s life and legacy at Glen Abbey Memorial.
