Biography for Carmela Berg
Carmela was born in New Jersey on April 20, 1922 to Nellie Farfaglia and Paul Finocchiaro, both immigrants from Sicily. The family moved to California when Carmela was an infant, and she has resided in San Diego since 1936. She was married to Art Berg, the love of her life. When he passed away in 2006, the two had been married for over 50 years. She was predeceased by her daughter, Diane Deyling, in 1997 and her son, Gerry Berg, in 2011. She is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Sebastian of Escondido and Carlene Felder of Bonita, her brother, Ted Finocchiaro, 8 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. She attended Mass at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church every week since the early 1950's, was an active member of the Third Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Padre Pio Group, and the California Rosemaling Association. In addition to painting, she also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
