Christine Irma West
August 2, 1931 – March 30, 2021
Christine West,89, passed away peacefully at her home in Chula Vista on March 30, 2021. A loving wife and mother, Christine was preceded by her husband of 60 years, Paul West. She is survived by her only child, Linda Moeller, and her son-in-law Helmut Moeller.
Christine, daughter of Emil and Gretchen Horn, was born in Germany on August 2, 1931. After immigrating to New York at the age of two, she settled in Chula Vista as a teenager. An excellent student, Christine was the valedictorian of the first graduating class of Chula Vista High School.
Always fascinated by criminal justice and law enforcement, Christine joined the San Diego Deputy Sheriff’s Department. She proudly served as a deputy, then was promoted to sergeant and head of the San Diego Women’s Jail. She finished her carer a a bailiff and retired after twenty years of service to care for her ailing elderly parents.
Animals were Christine’s passion. Over the years she owned horses, parrots, dogs and cats. She was a faithful supporter of the San Diego Humane Society. Christine loved to play bridge and skat with her friends. She also enjoyed the San Diego beaches and traveling with friends and family.
Born and raised Lutheran, Christine taught Sunday School and participated in a variety of Bible study classes. Her church family, Concordia Church and School Chula Vista, provided loving support to her during her lengthy illness. The family is grateful to all who helped make Christine’s last days safe, comfortable, and dignified.
A family graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Glen Abbey in Bonita.
