Conchita V. Gullaba

Conchita “Ching” V. Gullaba, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, entrepreneur, and fearless pioneer, passed away on August 20, 2026, at the age of 82. She was born on May 18, 1944.

Ching’s life was a testament to the power of one immigrant’s American dream. A fierce risk-taker who believed in herself, she was never afraid to take a chance and create something of her own. In 1996, she founded Ching’s Famous Hopia Bake Shop in National City, California, creating a unique business that was the first of its kind in the community. Through hard work, courage, and determination, her dream became a lasting family legacy. Today, the business remains open and continues as a family-owned and operated business, carrying forward the foundation she built.

Ching shared her life with her beloved husband, Manolo D. Gullaba, and together they raised three children: Allan Gullaba, Butch Gullaba, and Crystal Gullaba. She was also a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy and filled her life with love and cherished memories.

Outside of her work, Ching found happiness in the simple pleasures of creating and caring for others. She loved to cook and share food with family and friends. She was also gifted with her hands and enjoyed making beautiful crafts, especially sewing and crochet. Her creativity, patience, and love could be seen in everything she made.

Ching will be remembered for her strength, independence, generosity, creativity, and unwavering love for her family. Her story is the story of an immigrant who dreamed, took a chance on herself, and built something that would outlive her.

Her legacy lives on through her husband, children, eight grandchildren, family, the business she founded, and all those whose lives she touched.
