Born in San Diego on February 11, 1939, Dale was the eldest son of Emily and Herbert (Jack) Godfrey and a caring older brother. He spent his life rooted in love, hard work, and creativity, and was a guiding presence to his family and all who knew him.
Dale was a devoted family man whose greatest pride was in the family and community he built and cherished. He is survived by his loving wife, Madeleine Godfrey. Dale and Madeleine shared nearly 48 wonderful years of marriage—a milestone he missed by just two days.
He was a father to four children and his legacy continues with twelve grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and countless others who saw Dale as a father figure.
A man of many talents and boundless energy, Dale ran his own business for decades, only retiring a year before his passing. He was as much an artist as he was an entrepreneur— a gifted woodworker and a true wordsmith with a deep appreciation for language and craftsmanship. Known for his youthful spirit, Dale approached life with curiosity and sarcasm, often surprising new acquaintances who couldn’t believe his age.
Dale’s presence was magnetic—warm, wise, respected, and always ready with a story, a laugh, or a helping hand. He enjoyed life fully and left an indelible mark on the hearts of those fortunate enough to know him.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 20th at 11:00 a.m. at Glen Abbey Mortuary in Bonita followed by a celebration of life at Bonita Golf Course.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to the American Lebanese Syrian Ladies Club (ALSLC). Proceeds will benefit the elderly and disabled in Lebanon
