David Yang Hsu was a 5th generation Christian born on July 26, 1947 to Tzu Cheng Hsu and Chen Chi Hsu in Taipei, Taiwan’s Zhongshan district, Niupo district. In 1984, he married Ruth Tang and together had one son, Stephen, and two daughters, Angela and Grace.
In his early life, he was inspired by Jesus Christ’s example, following Biblical teachings and serving the youth in the church. In Taiwanese society, he demonstrated talented leadership and management. Due to political turmoil in Taiwan during the 1980’s, he immigrated to the US and purchased Dairy Queen restaurants in Utah. He encouraged his parents, younger brothers and younger sister to come to the US and work together. With blessings from God, they made a new life for themselves in the US.
After retiring in 2016, he moved in with his son in Oceanside, CA to enjoy a leisure life of sunshine, beaches and ocean waves. He continued his hobby of cooking gourmet food for family, as he had cooked for the church family previously that everyone talked a lot about. He also spent time with Angela’s two children, Micah and Maia, enjoying cheerful times with his grandson and granddaughter.
After getting diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, he fought the cancer for nearly two months together with his family. On November 29, 2018 at 9:15 AM, he passed peacefully in the presence of his family to be with the Lord.
