Divina Poblete Villar, was born on May 8, 1934 in Manila, Philippines, to Dr. Vicente Pareja Poblete and Aurora Ferrer Poblete. She passed away peacefully on January 5, 2021, after a gradual decline in health.
Divina will always be remembered for her kindness, generosity, selflessness, thoughtfulness, strong faith, and as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, and friend.
Divina was the second oldest of 7 children. She graduated from the University of Santo Thomas School of Pharmacy in 1955, and she was a pharmacist in the Philippines. Several years later, she met her husband, Marcelino Lapuz Villar and they were married on March 6, 1965. Due to the Navy career of Marcelino, the family traveled and lived in different places in the east and west coasts of the US, and also lived in the Philippines for a few years. In 1972, the family transferred to California and finally settled in National City, where they raised their children. Divina resumed her career in pharmacy where she worked as a pharmacy technician at Mercy Hospital, San Diego. She was recognized for her strong work ethic and fondly remembered for her fun-loving personality and for bringing delicious Filipino food to work. After almost 30 years of service, she retired in 2004.
During their retirement, Marcelino and Divina enjoyed traveling to the Philippines, Asia, and Europe. Divina cherished spending time with her family and friends, cooking, eating out, shopping, helping others and serving her church community. She will be truly missed by all who knew her. Divina is survived by her husband, Marcelino, of 55 years. Together they have 3 children, Marivi (Gary), Gerry (Lisa), and Jomar (Liana), and 6 grandchildren (Stephen, Christopher, Lauren, Tyler, Alyanna, and Adriana).
