OBITUARY

Domitila Tillie "Tillie" Aceves

May 11, 1926January 10, 2013

On January 10, 2013, surrounded by family, Domitila "Tillie" Haro Aceves passed away peacefully in her home, just the way she always wanted it. We took comfort that upon her death she was greeted by family who have passed before her including her husband, Lauro Q. Aceves whom she married on April 25, 1943 in Yuma, Arizona. With her passing the world lost a beautiful, funny, caring, and profoundly generous human being. The matriarch of the family, Tillie devoted herself unconditionally to her family (given and chosen) and for those who knew her it was clear that no matter who you were when you were with her she made you feel special and loved.

Tillie was born on May 11, 1927 in Juichipila, Zacatecas, Mexico and grew up in Calexico, California. Eventually with her husband and children, they moved west to Bonita, CA, which she has called home since 1954.

Tillie is survived by four children: Lauro Aceves Jr. (Linda), Robert Aceves (MaryAnn), Bonnie Selcho (Brian), and Joseph Aceves (Teri) and two brothers Willie Acuna (Rosa) and Robert Acuna (Olga). She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, numerous “adopted” grandchildren, twenty great grand children and extended family too enormous to count.

She was preceded in death by her husband (Lauro Aceves), her son (Richard Aceves), and her dearest lifelong friend (Lance Lowe).

And as we mourn her loss, we are comforted by the words she uttered to her husband almost every night, “We’ve had a good life.”

In memory of Tillie/Nana/Mom:

I have so many things to see and do. You must not tie yourself to me with tears Be happy that we had so many years. I gave you love, you can only guess how much you gave me in happiness. I thank you for the love each have shown but now it is time I traveled alone. So grieve awhile for me if grieve you must, then let your grief be comforted by trust. It is only for a while that we must part so bless those memories within your heart. I will not be far away, for life goes on, so if you need me, call and I will come. Though you cannot see or touch me, I will be near. And if you listen with your heart, you will hear All of my love around you, soft and clear. Then when you must come this way alone, I will greet you with a smile and a loving"welcome home"
