I worked with Menchie on the naval base for many years, and had the pleasure of witnessing the beautiful love between Don & Menchie. I admired the support & adoration they had for one another.  Don would often come by the office to help us with anything we needed even after he had a long day. Their chemistry was so apparent & honestly I looked up to both of them as an example of what a marriage could & should be. They will always be an incredible love story 💗

Hi Ninong Don,

I can still remember the funny faces you were making when this picture was being taken after our family reunion. Thank you for being the warm-hearted person that you are in every room that you walk in. I will forever cherish the moments we all shared had regardless of where we were. We will definitely be singing Surfing USA in the karaoke for you. We love and miss you Ninong Don, may you rest in peace in the loving arms of the Lord.

My deepest condolences, I want to thank Don for all the years of help and assistance thru out my career, he could always be counted on and was very well known and respected in the San Diego Navy H-60 community. He will be greatly missed.

He was a mentor to me and so many others — we are all better because of him.
His legacy stretches far beyond the sunsets from the flight deck. These memories we will never forget.

Although I met Ninong Don recently, we connected as if we were long time friends. We bonded over our love of traveling and motorcycles, and shared stories of silly things we did when we were young. 

Our friendship was recent but it was genuine. Anna and I say we would have been best friends growing up together. It’s amazing how we are from different times but are able to share so many things in common. 

It was great talking with you, Ninong Don. Thanks for the fun conversations with me and Anna.

Our heartfelt condolences to Ninang Menchie and the entire family. Ninong Don was always a bright spot in every room he was in. He told great stories in a way that brought them to life and tried to make us laugh in every way possible. My favorites were those moments where we laughed so much we all cried.

Whenever I visited he was so proud to show off the garden he and Ninang Menchie worked on, particularly the peppers. He was generous, giving and always willing to listen. We love and miss Ninong.

So sorry for your loss Menchie! Don and I were friends, colleagues, and roommates many, many years ago and he was definitely one of a kind! Our deepest condolences!

Don Sirek was a fellow Aircrewman, Chief Petty Officer and friend. I’m saddened by his death. I remember the fun times we had, and our children grew up together while in the “HC” community. I will never forget his smile and seeing the good in all people he encountered. If I can I will be there at his final send off. I’ll miss you my friend. Fair winds!!!

So sorry Menchie. Don was a great friend and Human being. never heard a cross word from him and his sense of humor was as warped as mine. he will be missed. Fair winds and following sea Don.
