

Edward William Esquivel was born on November 27, 1941. His parents William & Jennie Esquivel raised him in National City, California; along with his two siblings. He attended Kimball Elementary, National City Junior High and Sweetwater Union High School; graduating in 1953.
In 1962, he became a loving husband, marrying Modesta (Nena) Reyes. They were married both by court and at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, in National City. In 1963, Edward and Nena welcomed their first child. During their marriage, they had six children together, four boys and two girls.
Edward was a devoted husband, a dedicated and loving father and grandfather, a humorous person, a man of principle, honest, reliable and highly respected. He worked hard every day of his life.
He worked 52 years on the waterfront as a Longshoreman, for the International Longshoreman and Warehouse Union, Local 29. He served his local as an Welfare Officer and Marine Clerk for many years. He operated everything related to Longshore, but was famous for his fork lifting skills. He ultimately advanced to Super Cargo Status, where he worked steady as a Chief Supervisor. This is where he was named "Chief". He was a proud union man, following his father’s footsteps.
He enjoyed playing the guitar and harmonica, carpentry, camping, fishing, hunting, horse racing, being at the casino, spending time with wife and his family, boxing, the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Denver Broncos.
He was survived by his wife, Modesta. His two sisters Cecilia and Tina. His six children: William Edward Esquivel, Raymond Serapio Esquivel, Edward Esquivel Jr., Rosalee Esquivel Aleman, John Esquivel and Lydia Ann Esquivel. Daughter in law, Carmen Esquivel. Son in law, Aldo F. Aleman. Seventeen grandchildren: Jessica Yvette Esquivel Burke, Veronica Rose Esquivel, Sarah Lauren Esquivel, Victoria Aleman, Adrian Aleman, Nicolas Aleman, Selina Chavez, Raymond Joaquin Esquivel, Marcella Olivia Esquivel, Rosa Ortiz, Lauren Danielle Esquivel, Patrice Esquivel, Harriet Febe Esquivel, Jennie Esquivel, Emily Esquivel, Paul Esquivel and William Lawrence Esquivel. Six great grandchildren: Yessenia, Melina, Anthony, Adriana, Angel, and Ismael.
His life was cut too soon for our family. But those who were touched by him understood that the equality of existence far exceeds the quantity of which one lives. He brought so much joy to his family. He will be greatly missed and will live forever in our hearts.
