Emeterio Picache Dela Cruz was born on March 3, 1926 in Cavite City, Philippines to the late Jose Dela Cruz and Francisca Picache. He had 3 brothers, Augusto, Jesus and Delio and 2 sisters, Carlina and Susana, all who have preceded him in death.
He was raised in Cavite City, where he attended and graduated from Cavite National High School. Shortly after, Emeterio attended a vocational course in Cavite City to become an Electrical Technician.
One of the highlights of his life was when he met his soul mate, Clarita Dela Cruz Cadua. They were joined in marriage on August 11, 1951 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olongapo City, Philippines. Emeterio always expressed and showed how much he admired his wife for her beauty, unconditional love, care and not to mention, the love of her cooking, which in his own words provided him with strength. They were happily married for 63 years.
Emeterio was very active in the community and utilized his great leadership skills. While in the Philippines, he served as the President of the St. Columban Parish, the President of Prelaturia in Zambales, was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, an instructor for an electrical engineering course, a marriage counselor and assigned as the highest ranking safety officer at Cubi Point Subic Naval Base where he received numerous awards.
In the 80s, Emeterio decided to move to the United States with his wife and resided in San Diego, CA. He worked for Southwest & Nassco, where he was an Electrician working on naval ships; he enjoyed his job and the people he worked with. He continued his leadership in the community and served as the President of the Subic Bay Association.
He retired in the 90s and shortly after, moved to San Francisco, CA. Although he was retired, he still remained busy and was a member of the Eucharistic Ministry at St. Patrick Catholic Church. During his free time, he frequently prayed for his family and others in need, played chess, computer games, read various forms of literature and definitely enjoyed going to the casino to play slot machines. He always knew how to have a good time and this was his outlook in life. No matter what, he remained positive and happy. Not to forget, neat and well dressed!
On September 21, 2014 he was called home at the age of 88. He lived a long, joyous and prosperous life and although he is not physically with us, his love fills the air and hearts of many people. He was a great role model to everyone whether a father, husband or a follower of God. He will live on in the glory of God and will serve as our guardian angel in heaven. You have shared with us so many memories, love, hugs and laughter and we will cherish them forever. We love and will truly miss you!!!
