

Emilio Velasco was born in Tijuana, Mexico, where he spent his childhood, alongside his parents, 3 brothers and 4 sisters. He moved to San Diego, California when he was a teenager under his godfather's care, after his father's passing. He attended Samuel Gompers Junior High School and San Diego High School where he recieved his High School Diploma in June of 1963. Emilio joined the Army in 1967 where he served in 173D Airborne Brigade and awarded The Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces in the Republic of Vietnam during November 1967 to November 1968. After serving in the military, Emilio married Maria Del Carmen Tellaeche on July 29, 1972. He recieved his Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship for Journeyman Painter, at San Diego Community College in September 17th, 1972. He had four children and resided in San Diego for most of his life, working as a commercial painter throughout San Diego and Los Angeles.
Emilio loved to garden and drive his classic cars. He enjoyed listening to music and dancing. He was also a football enthusiast and enjoyed his work as a painter. He enjoyed helping others by encouraging education and spending time with family and friends. He loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor. Emilio will forever be remembered and beloved by his wife, Carmen Velasco, son, Sebastian Velasco, and daughters, Josefina Velasco and Veronica Velasco, alongside grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, and friends.
