Hope was born September 10, 1928 in Zacatecas, Mexico and being one girl with 9 brothers to her parents Francisca Varela Garcia and Mauricio Garcia.
At a very young age, she was a Beauty Queen in her hometown of Zacatecas. As years passed, she had the opportunity to move to Santa Monica California to live with her aunt. She had an entrepreneurial spirit and quickly went to work for an import/export enterprise called “The Mellinger Company". Thereafter she worked for Frederick’s of Hollywood (when it was a classy dress shop) where she met the love of her life Billy G. Ferris, a handsome young man in the Navy from Lusk Wyoming.
According to Hope, “Boy was Billy a handsome catch” 10 years younger, blue eyes, hard-working and having a truly loving, affectionate and caring interest to engage the future with her. Billy carefully plotted his approach, coming multiple times into Hope’s work at Frederick’s discretely browsing when she asked Billy how can she help? “Him claiming” wanting to purchase something for his sister, and yes, he used the same pitch every time he visited her at the shop. It took many visits by Billy before she agreed to go out on a date and that’s when the love story blossomed.
Hope & Billy were married in 1958 and they subsequently moved to Spring Valley California while their forever home in National City, California was being built.
Over the years, they grew to be a loving team, sharing their affection with each other, building a nest for their future and planning all the glories that life had to offer. They purchased a travel trailer where they created many years of fabulous family traveling memories with their boys Daniel and Robert. They visited many attractions throughout the USA and taking many trips to Billy’s family in Wyoming.
Hope loved to play Bingo and she was really good at winning – she had a knack for winning. She was also very involved in the local senior centers and was known as the “Sunshine Lady” sending Get Well, Happy Birthday cards etc. to her fellow seniors and friends. Hope easily made friends and she was loved by all that she came into contact with.
The love of her life, Billy G. Ferris passed away on August 2, 1998. Hope was resilient and forged through the sad loss by keeping busy, occupying her time by exercising, volunteering, going to bingo, dances, and spending quality time with great friends and keeping productive. She was always ambitious.
In April 2022 Hope moved to Fredericka Manor in Chula Vista California where she made many more great friends as she was a magnet for making friendships. She had a heart of gold and always sharing her kind uplifting spirit with anyone. She was always on the go… participating with bingo, exercising, church services, seeing movies, meditation, library, concerts, Fridays Social Hour, hanging out with friends listening to Frank Sinatra music and loved having her family over for dinners at Fredericka. Up until the week before her passing, she was always partying and having fun. Every-day, she made it an absolute point to say from her heart, thank you so much for helping me move to my beautiful new home at Fredericka as I am so grateful for being given the opportunity to new friendships, exercising my mind, body, spirit, soul, and not being left to being alone!
