Our hero, Federico B. Patino, was born on February 2, 1937, in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, México. He passed away peacefully on November 22, 2020, in Coronado, California, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Federico was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who valued relationships and connections to the people he cared for. He spent his formative years in Tijuana, México, with his parents Xavier and Concha Herroz and siblings. In 1969, he moved his family to the United States in hopes of a better life and through dedication, hard work, and love, he created a lasting legacy for his family.
He was passionate not only for his family and friends but also for the Hotel Del Coronado. The “Del” wasn’t just a place of employment; it was the place that provided him the opportunity to pursue and achieve his American Dream. He deeply knew and respected the history of the Hotel Del Coronado and gave his blood, sweat and tears to ensure that the Del would be uplifted to reflect its majestic history. This was evident not only in his thirty-nine years of service but in his rise up the ranks to Senior Vice President of Convention Services and member of the Executive Committee. He led his staff with his own unique philosophy: warmth, laughter, and support while expecting everyone’s personal best.
Federico was enthusiastic about sports. He loved his San Diego Chargers and was a season ticket holder since the team’s inaugural season at San Diego Stadium in 1967. Providing this unique opportunity for his family for nearly fifty years, Sunday afternoons were special moments to bond, connect, and enjoy our Super Chargers. He also loved to watch soccer and baseball. He supported his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in their own ventures into playing sports and was present at their games to cheer them on with great pride.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Gloria, his children, Marissa, Federico, Gabriela, and Carlos, his grandchildren, Taylor, Christopher, Kevin, Gizelle, Antonio, Cayden, Olivia, Maxwell, and Carson, and his great grandchildren, Grace, Presley, Paulina, Layla and Victoria.
The family is asking for donations to Alzheimer’s San Diego in our father’s name in lieu of flowers.
