Felipe J. Sanchez was born in Billings, Montana on January 8, 1928, to his mother Macaria Mendoza and his father Felipe Sanchez. Felipe was one of youngest of 18 children. At an early age Felipe began working to support his family and to help in any way he could. This is who he was for the whole of his life; ensuring his family was taken care of. He was always there to lend a hand and whatever he did, he did with all his heart.
Felipe was drafted into the United States Army (infantry) and served our county in the Korean War and was a purple heart recipient. Throughout his lifetime, Felipe had many occupations from solider, to maintenance supervisor, landscape technician, and auto shop foreman (not in that order). Felipe was very patriotic and loved the USA. Above all, Felipe enjoyed being around family and friends.
Felipe lived to be 94 years old and had a quick wit about him. Even up the last two weeks of his life he joked with hospital staff, family, and friends. In fact, many of the hospital staff even if they weren’t assigned to him, came in to check on him. He touched people’s lives in ways that goes beyond anything material. Felipe had a quiet strength about him, and was compassionate, giving, forgiving and strong.
Felipe leaves behind children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a sister, nephews, nieces, and many friends. Felipe was adored by all those that encountered him. He was loved and cherished, and, in the end, he passed away on the early morning of April 6, 2022, in his home being cared for by his family just as he wished.
We love you Felipe, although you are gone, you are not forgotten. Your spirit permeates every cell of our bodies, and we are all better people having had you in our lives.
Preceding Felipe in death: his wife Manuela Luna Sanchez, siblings, many family members, and friends.
