Fidel Marcelino Ortiz Jr. passed away April 27, 2019 at the age of 82. Fidel was born August 17, 1936 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was better known by his friends and family as, “Sonny”. He retired after 50 plus years in construction, where he ended his career as a General Contractor. Building a legacy for his family, Sonny established roots in property management with the intent of providing “leaves” for future generations. Although we chuckled at his analogy at the time, we have come to realize his vision and hope to not only preserve but also grow our own “leaves”.
Sonny will be lovingly remembered by his children – Rod, Fidel III “Massa”, Leona, and Martin; son-in-law/daughter-in-law’s – Theresa, Mylene, Margarita, Jerry, and Grace; grandchildren – Dolores (Kris), Melissa (Mo), Myles, Mari (Daniel), Leilani (Danny), and Amanda; and his great-grandchildren – Sydnie, Mia, Santiago, Sebastian, Noelani and Reagan.
Sonny was pre-deceased by his loving wife Dolores “Doy” and his parents Fidel M. Ortiz, Sr. and Edna Santeco.
An accomplished musician, Sonny was a member of the Royal Hawaiian Band as 1st chair clarinet. He shared his love of music by entertaining family and friends with impromptu music sessions at family gatherings by playing his ukulele, guitar, and singing songs. His love of music endures through his children who continue to do the same with both family and friends and passing it down through the generations. Sonny could also be proud that his strong work ethics, “work smart, not hard” and Ohana live on through his kids/grandkids/great-grandkids.
Miss and love you dad/grandpa/great-grandpa – say hi to mom/grandma/great-grandma for us!
