Florentino Meroy Montalla, was born on October 26, 1957, in Santa Cruz, Zambales, to Anselmo and Francisca Montalla. Growing up as the fourth of sixth children, he helped his parents with fishing and farming, instilling in him a strong work ethic and love for agriculture. A bright student, he graduated as valedictorian from Longos High School before attending Manila Central University, where he not only pursued dentistry but also met the love of his life, Brenda. His persistence in winning her heart led to a beautiful marriage and three wonderful children: Joseph Christian, Mary Anne Josephine, and Jahzel Joy. In 1996, he immigrated to the U.S., building a successful career as a dedicated registered dental assistant for 29 years before retiring from MCRD Dental Clinic.
A man of deep faith, he hosted Bible studies at home and served as a cross bearer at church, always leading by example. He had a passion for sports like basketball and bowling, enjoyed DIY home projects, gardening, and was a talented cook—his chicken adobo and pancit were family favorites. Known for his warm personality, he loved socializing, especially with the elderly, and had an incredible sense of humor. He also had a soft spot for dogs and a deep appreciation for good food, including pistachio and ube macapuno ice cream, ramen, pho, crab legs, and In-N-Out burger. Even in retirement, he remained a visionary, dreaming of starting a water station, a chicken farm, and aquaponic and hydroponic projects.
Above all, Florentino was a devoted husband, father, and friend who lived with purpose, generosity, and joy. He was a living embodiment of resilience despite any adversities he faced. His kindness, laughter, and unwavering faith left a lasting impact on everyone he met, and his memory will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
