Born in Fryeburg, Maine, on March 27, 1925, he proudly served 30 years in the United States Navy, retiring as a Master Chief Petty Officer, before establishing and becoming president of the Coombs Construction Company, a builder of custom homes in the La Jolla and Point Loma areas of San Diego.
He is survived by his sister Lynn Traver, of Moravia, New York; his brother Edward of Fryeburg, Maine; sons Frank L. Coombs, Jr., of Phoenix, Arizona, and Gary L. Coombs; granddaughters Ronde and Tonya, and five great-grandchildren.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Glen Abbey Mortuary in Bonita; a private family service is planned.
