I came to work for Fred in 1990,I was in and out of C&W for 20 years,his love was tough but sincere. In 2000 he went above and beyond for me and got me grandfathered into the ADC diver community, He taught me every challenge in life is mind over matter, always give 110 percent ,and never ever  give up. I love you Fred, thankful for all of your lessons 🤙

What a fun guy and great professional. Enjoyed runs on the beach together. Fond memories. 

Fred was a good friend and teammate for 47 years. We met and trained together at BUD/S in 1974, both of us served at ST-1.
I respected Fred, I knew him to have a big heart, an ability to connect and get the job done. He was always ready to help and provided assistance to many. He was gracious, quick with a smile and a can do attitude. He had the capacity to multitask like no one I've ever known.
Fred will be missed by friends and family alike and remembered for his many accomplishments, none greater than his love of family.

I met Fred on the same day that he gave me the opportunity to do something that I love. He gave me a job working on the Tug Hero at the building of the New Oakland Bay Bridge. I was soon driving one of the crew boats after he sent me to the school to get my license. When my mom became sick he paid for my wife, Gladys, and I to fly to Utah and see her for the last time. Fred never asked for anything in return except for me to do my best for him and that’s exactly what I did. Perhaps one of our bonds was that we were both Veterans of the US Navy. As time passed I learned that he was generous and helpful to many others that passed through his life. He was simply a good man.  I will always have great respect and admiration for Fred West and will never forget the impact he had in my life.  Fair winds and following seas Fred. Rest easy, we have the watch.

Fred is a legend in the NSW and San Diego Diver community. I am forever grateful for his service to our country. Growing up guys like him were and still are my hero’s. .  Fred was tough but always had a big open heart for us divers. He demanded a lot but always gave us a shot and multiple chances for success and  a clean slate  from us jaded military  guys to prison guys He will be dearly missed and the bay will not be the same with him gone. Semper Fidelis. Hooya Fred.
