George Richard Miller died peacefully on March 5, 2022, in the presence of his wife Sandra Miller, concluding a life devoted to family and public service in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Postal Service. George was raised in Bradford, a small dairy town in Vermont. He grew up with four siblings, Donald and James Miller (deceased), Douglas Miller, and Margaret Jean Wakefield. He was a member of the high school ski team and marching band, where he played the drum. He was employed by a local creamery making butter cleaning the milk tanks.
After High School, George and a buddy went to the recruiting office and joined the Navy. This was the start pf a 22-year career that included stints on the USS Peoria and USS Cleveland and as a Navy Recruiter for the San Diego District. During this time George met and married Dolly Hale and settled in San Diego. After he left the Navy George began his next chapter as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. Over the next 24 years people in the North Park, Encanto, and Navajo stations knew and appreciated George for his reliable and friendly service and for his long legs and short shorts.
George and Dolly were very active in the San Diego square dancing scene When Dolly passed away in 1999 after 23 years of marriage George continued to dance, where he met Sandy Peck. The two married in 2002. They enjoyed 20-plus years together dancing in festivals, traveling, and enjoying time with family. They also worked for many years as guest service representatives for the San Diego Padres at Petco Park. George was a generous contributor to numerous charitable causes.
George was a sweet and kind man who will be missed by many.
Services will be held in the Chapel of the Roses at Glen Abby Memorial Park.
Viewing will be Sunday, March 20th from 5:00 to 9:00 pm.
A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Monday the 21st of March, 2022.
George will be laid to rest with his wife Dolly at 11:00 am on 21st of March 2022.
