Gerardo is survived by his wife, Dalia Dalila Sevilla, his children, Adriana Hernandez, Erick Sevilla and Andre Sevilla. His grandchildren, Adreyan Hernandez, Sophia Hernandez and Elian James Wegryn-Sevilla. His brothers and sisters, Fernando Silva,
Enrique Silva, Lourdes Marquez, Blanca Aceves and Gabby Silva.
He was born on September 24, 1953 to Lidia Marquez Silva and Juan Sevilla.
As the oldest sibling, he began working at a very young age to help provide for the family and always had strong work ethics. He lived in East Los Angeles during his adolescent years where he began his interest in low riders and soccer. The family moved to San Diego in the early seventies, where he graduated from High School and attended Southwestern College. Gerardo was on the forefront and pioneering of Chicano Studies and the M.E.C.H.A movement and graduating from Southwestern College with a degree in Political Science. He also obtained a BA with a Teacher’s Credential from National University. He worked in the grocery business over 25 years and wanted to move to Cancun for his retirement years and teach English classes.
Gerardo met Dalia at a Car Club dance in 1974, it was love at first sight, he told his friend that he was going to marry her. They were married a year later on February 22, 1975. Priding himself with hard work, dedication and perfection, he built a life for his children that he never had. Devoting over 25 years of sobriety and helping others in Alcoholic Anonymous he became a legend in AA and his soul will remain in meetings forever. A soccer coach and a providing father will be remembered for being a man of a few words, always well kept and very spiritual with a strong Faith in the Lord.
Gerardo had a big heart, genuine personality and character to match and will be greatly missed by his family and friends alike. Always willing to lend an ear for advice,
his whispers from Heaven live on Forever watching over us.
A COVID conscious Memorial Service and Funeral is scheduled for 1:00 PM on January 22, 2021 at Glen Abbey Memorial Park & Mortuary. Family and friends are welcome to honor and remember the life of Gerardo Sevilla.
