Godofredo Capili Toledo was born on February 17, 1935 in Tabon, Kawit Cavite, Philippines to Juana and Fermin Toledo. He was the second youngest of six children (2 boys and 4 girls). He met his soul mate Marciana Arceo in Manila, Philippines and married her on January 11, 1958. He leaves behind three daughters: Tet, Liz, Maryann, 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He joins his daughter Josephine in heaven.
Godofredo dedicated 20 years of service to the United States Navy. He was a decorated sailor earning the Navy “E” Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (Fifth Award), and the Navy Unit Commendation Medal. He fought in the Vietnam War and received the Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation-Gallantry Cross, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. After retiring from the military, he continued to serve the U.S. Government for another 10 years.
He was active with the Knights of Columbus of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Kawitenos Association of Southern California. Other hobbies included bowling, running; he loved to work on cars, enjoyed the casino, earned a black belt in karate and was an incredible cook.
He found goodness and joy in the simplest things in life. His foremost joy was his wife, children, and grandchildren. There is nothing he wouldn’t do for his family. Godofredo was a person of great character, integrity and was extremely humble. He was a man of strong faith and loved the Lord. His generosity was endless. He was generous with his time, with his beliefs and mostly with his love. He was a man with a big heart. Always thinking of others before himself, he opened his door to anyone who needed help and never turned his back on anyone that asked. He touched many lives, too many to count. He will be sorely missed, but always remembered.
