HENRY AGTANG CALUMPIT SR

HENRY AGTANG CALUMPIT SR, age 86, of Imperial Beach, California passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. HENRY was born August 25, 1934 in Vintar, Ilocos Norte, Philippines.

A visitation for HENRY will be held Monday, February 1, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Glen Abbey Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA 91902. Rosary will be held at 5:00 PM at the Glen Abbey Chapel of Roses (Outdoor Tent).

Church service will be held Tuesday, February 2, 2021 from 1200 PM to 1:00 PM at St. Charles Catholic Church, 990 Saturn Blvd, San Diego, CA 92154 followed by burial services at Glen Abbey Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA 91902.

Henry is a retired government civilian who spent 20 years in the US Navy and 21 years with Civil Service for the US Navy. His past time enjoyment includes watching championship boxing on TV and gardening. He won several awards for "Best Yard in the Neighborhood". He took pride in his fruit trees, most especially his lemon tree which he shared with everyone.

Henry is survived by his three sons; Davis and his wife Annabelle; Joseph and his wife Anna; and Henry Jr.; three grandchildren, Christiana, Christian and Ryan; Chaly Pedro from Camarillo, CA; Juanita Andres and her husband Virgilio from Vintar, Ilocos Norte and Amelita Enverga and her husband Alex from Chicago, IL. He is preceded in death by his wife Jacinta A. Calumpit in 2002

Biography

HENRY was born in Vintar, Ilocos Norte, Philippines to Severe T. Calumpit and Marciana A. Calumpit and was raised with three siblings, an older sister, Chaly, and two younger sisters, Nita and Melita.

HENRY graduated from Vintar Academy in 1951. It could be said that for HENRY, grades may not have been the most important thing to him, but he really did enjoy his school experience.

After High School, HENRY attended Northwestern College to pursue Pre-Law. After a couple years of college, opportunity presented itself and with the influence of his friends, he enlisted into the US Navy. During his 20-year career, HENRY’s time in the navy was served on two aircraft carriers and two submarine tenders. HENRY also had shore duty at Great Lakes, Illinois; Long Beach, California; Bremerton, Washington and San Diego, CA. HENRY also saw action during the Vietnam and Korean Wars in which he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/4 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korean War), Navy Unit Commendation w/Bronze Star and the Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon. After his military life, he continued to serve his country by spending another 20 years with Civil Service as a Machinist. When dealing with various projects and problems, HENRY used his common sense and trusting his experiences and impulses to complete any task on hand.

HENRY married his love of his life, Jacinta Aguinaldo and was blessed with three sons, Davis, Joseph, and Henry Jr. They are also blessed with three grandchildren, Christiana, Christian and Ryan.

HENRY enjoyed his leisurely time by going fishing with his sons when they were but a youngster. He would involve himself playing basketball with his boys and on occasion, have a boxing match in the front yard. Boxing was one of his favorite pastimes and he really enjoyed championship boxing on the television. His other favorite pastime was gardening. He won several awards for “Best Yard in the Neighborhood. Have you seen his Amaryllis Flowers? Amazing. He also took pride in his fruit trees, most especially his lemon tree which he shared with everyone.

Vested with a deep concern for spiritual development, HENRY recognized that his faith was important to him throughout his life. He was a member with St Charles Catholic Church located in south San Diego since the 70s.

HENRY brought joy to all of those around him. He loved to have a good time and loved to share his energy, wit, and his zest for all his activities with his friends and family. HENRY AGTANG CALUMPIT SR lived life to its fullest. He will be remembered with a smile.
