

Ignacio “Iggy” Mariano Tayag of San Diego, California, passed peacefully and joined his Creator on March 31, 2025 after being cared for by his loving family in his final years.
Iggy was born in Dau, Mabalcat, Pampanga, Philippines in 1939 to Anacleto and Maria Tayag, and was the 6th of 7 children. Iggy graduated from Saint Anthony’s Institute in 1956 and joined the United States Navy in 1960, working hard to help support his family. Iggy served in the Navy for 21 years, including a tour of duty during the Vietnam War, and shore duty in Naples, Italy. Upon his retirement from the Navy in 1981, Iggy returned to work with the Department of Defense as a logistician for over 30 years until his retirement from the DOD in 2012. In 1970, Iggy married the love of his life Aurora after being penpals during his tour of duty in Vietnam and while Aurora was working in England. They were married over 55 years and have 2 daughters, Norliza and Irene.
Iggy is preceded in death by his parents, Anacleto and Maria Tayag, and his siblings, Julia, Emiliano, Apolonia, Maximino, Teodora, and Priscilla, and is survived by his wife Aurora Tayag, daughter Norliza Tayag-Cruz, son in law Rex Cruz and their children Isaiah and Emma, and daughter Irene Tayag and her children, Kanoe and Sofia. Family, relatives and friends will remember Iggy by his great sense of humor and story telling. Iggy was a devoted husband and family man, proud father and adored his grandchildren.
A visitation for Iggy will be held Friday, April 25, 2025 from 5 pm to 9 pm at the Chapel of the Roses at Glen Abbey-3838 Bonita Rd, Bonita, CA, 91902. A funeral service will take place on Saturday April 26, 2025 from 10 am to 11 am at Mater Dei Catholic Church-1571 Magdalena Ave, Chula Vista, CA 91913. A graveside service will occur Saturday, April 26, 2025 at11:30 am with the reception from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm at Glen Abbey-3838 Bonita Rd, Bonita, CA.
